Finally the Guardian covers UK alleged Palestine Action hunger strikers

The unwillingness of the mainstream UK press to cover the 50 day hunger strike of 6 alleged Palestine Action activists rather gives the game away.

It’s a good thing that they have had a sudden change of heart and decided to give them a front page.

But what took them so long?

It goes to show how long and how many activists for particular issues have to engage in hunger strikes to get attention any media attention.

As with journalists, bankers, politicians – anyone can become an activist.

The right to be heard is not automatic.

Yet some people and issues get platforms while others struggle to be heard.

These activists were able to get in the media when they allegedly smashed up drones at an RAF base.

But when they were abused in prison and denied their basic legal rights suddenly there were no options left at their disposal – apart from to put their bodies on the line and to starve themselves.

And finally, after 50 days, and with a lot of social media activity including countless rallies and solidarity protests, they get a front page.

Will it go back to total silence or will there be genuine coverage of this issue?

Who at the BBC is supposed to be convering this?

Whoever it is needs to start stepping up.

As for Lammy himself, the Justice Secretary, it is clear he lives in Israel’s pocket.

The two facedness and shamelessness from that man takes some beating.

Having operated under Blair it is clear that he believes he can get away with anything.

There is little he is prepared to rule out in the pleasing of his paymasters and the pursuit of his career.

Lammy’s campaign manager for this Mayoral bid is now Israel’s official spokesman whose main function is fending off allegations of genocide.
